CHRIST The Only Way

 Is Believing in Jesus Enough?

If I asked you how to be saved, how would you respond? Would you say, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved? John 3:16? Okay, that's fair enough. What about the devil and his hosts of angels? They believe in Jesus. Does that make them saved? Maybe there is more to this than only John 3:16. Let's look into the new testament books and see if there is more to the "3:16."

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Here we see that we can trust all of the scriptures in God's Word to tell us what is required to be saved.

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

There is no doubt that Jesus is the way, all powerful, all knowing, and at the Father's side in heaven.

Galations 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ.

Jesus was foretold to come from Abraham's lineage, and it came to pass just as the Bible said it would. Do you believe this? If you do, then you love the "John" reference.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

When Jesus was born, he was foretold by the prophets of old and new. John the Baptist told of his coming.

Luke 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to loose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.

Jesus was empowered by the Holy Spirit when he was baptized by John.

Mathew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straitway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.

Once the Holy Spirit empowered Jesus, he took on the Lordship he had in heaven before he came to earth as a baby.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

Once a person believes, they allow Christ to rule their lives in all matters.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you.

Ephesians 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.

Acts 3:16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know; yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

So how are we to conduct ourselves in the world once we have believed?

Philippians 3:16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Hebrews 3:16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke; howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

It is hard for some to face the reality of the scriptures, but with the Holy Spirit indwelling the soul, they will understand.

2 Corinthians 3:16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

When a soul comes to Jesus, they realize what they were living in before and are greatful to Christ for taking them out of the old life.

James 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

Romans 3:16 Destruction and misery are in their ways.

We then, as new believers, have to leave the old life behind, even to the point of being ridiculed by friends of the old life.

1 Peter 3:16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

Study the Word of God to be ready for the attacks of the world. Put on the armor of God and be ready to stand firm for Christ. Whatever comes your way, be ready for it with knowledge of the Word. That is your only defense against Satan. Without the knowledge from God's Word, we are defenseless.

2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Do not get caught unprepared in times of trouble. Jesus commands us to know the Word. He expects us to stand for him to the very end and to watch for his return. He is coming back soon.

If Jesus came today, are you on fire for the Word and trying to learn everything you can get out of the Bible? Are you living for him every day, all day long? What about at home, do you pray to him? On the job, do you speak of him
and share him with others? Do you know Jesus any time other than the hour on Sunday morning?

Have you shown yourself to be worthy to escape destruction of the body and soul? When Jesus returns, what will he say to you? "Well done thou good and faithful servant," or will he catch you asleep and filled with the cares of the world? How will he react to you?

Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.

A good example of the change that must occur in a person's life would be with Peter.

Mark 3:16 And Simon he surnamed Peter.  The name "Simon" means a wavering reed in the wind, going whatever way the wind blows (religious changes and lifestyles to match the world's pleasures) -- changed to "Peter" which means the rock, standing fast in God's Word, unbendable and uncompromising.

These have been the inspired words of God in every chapter of the new testament that has a "3:16."  Is believing alone sufficient for salvation?  I think God's inspired Word has a lot for us to learn.
